Juan Mata names Ashley Young as Man United’s dressing room leader

Manchester United Football Club have had a mixed start to the season, though the overriding feeling going into the international break was disappointment.

It’s now down to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to help this squad bounce-back and start to believe in themselves once again. After all, these aren’t bad players, they’re just a bit mentally fragile at the moment…

One think that I’ve always thought that United have lacked in is dressing room leaders. There’s no Roy Keane-type presence who can stand up and take charge of things.

Well, according to Juan Mata, United’s dressing room leader is Ashley Young, with the versatile United star the man who gets everyone ready for games.

“Ashley Young is a leader in the dressing room and he gets everyone ready for the games.” Mata is quoted as saying by the Manchester Evening News at a promotional campaign for United partner Chivas.

For Young I guess that falls under his roles as the club captain. The 34-year-old is now one of just three players at United who have lifted the Premier League trophy, and although his best years are probably behind him, it’s fair to say that he still has his uses.

I know he’s not everyone’s cup of tea but if you need someone who can fill in and play in numerous positions, Young is your man. Even more than that, he’s the consummate professional who will command respect from the younger players within the dressing room.

With Luke Shaw out injured and United’s Europa League tournament starting up soon, Young will get plenty of playing time over the next month or so. Hopefully, he can continue to lead his teammates and bring some positive results for us fans to cheer.
