Manchester United got off to the best possible restart to domestic football following the international break, beating Swansea City 2-0 at Old Trafford.
I’ve always been a believer that when Juan Mata plays, the team performs better as a whole, and it was no surprise when we saw some excellent attacking football on display over the weekend.
Following the victory, Mata’s Monday morning blog post was released, and he was full of praise for one man in particular; Romelu Lukaku.
The 24-year-old hit-man scored his 100th Premier League goal in the encounter, becoming the fifth-youngest player to hit that milestone which is a wonderful achievement.
‘I’d like to congratulate Romelu Lukaku for his goal 100th in the Premier League,’ Mata wrote in his weekly blog. ‘Reaching that number of goals at the age of 24 is something truly exceptional that only the great goalscorers can achieve.’
Mata’s such an eloquent writer, and it’s clear that he, along with the rest of his United teammates, absolutely love Lukaku and the work-rate that he gets through.
When the former Everton man was signed I certainly had my doubts, but those have been quashed pretty convincingly during his debut season as a Red Devil. This is a guy who works his socks off for the cause and whenever you present him with an opportunity, you just know he’s going to take it.
The scary thing is that at 24, he’s only going to get better and better and we’re genuinely lucky to be able to call him one of our own.
