Manchester United Football Club and in particular Louis van Gaal has been heavily criticised for their handling of the Victor Valdes transfer saga. The veteran Spaniard signed on a free transfer six months ago, but has not really played much football since his arrival.
He and Louis van Gaal were at loggerheads over recent months, and it looked as though he was going to be sold. However no move came to fruition and now his Spanish compatriot Juan Mata has given us his take on proceedings.
“It’s a shame what is happening with him, as he is a great goalkeeper,” Mata told Marca.
“He wants to compete and has proved himself as a goalkeeper.”
He added: “I don’t know what happened between him and Van Gaal; that is something, only they can say.”
At the end of the day its probably in Valdes’ best interests to move on. He isn’t going to get much game time due to the form of David de Gea, and Sergio Romero is almost certainly in front of him in the pecking order.
Juan Mata is one of the most likeable characters in football, and obviously he is going to give Valdes his backing as he has worked with him for years on the international stage.
