Ajax defender Jurrien Timber remains keen on a move to Man United this summer.
We’ve said it time and time again. Manchester United need help defensively. Be it with new signings or training ground tactics, something has to change going into 2022/23.
Last year, the Red Devils conceded the fifteenth-most goals in the Premier League. For a side with genuine trophy aspirations next year, that’s just not going to cut it.
One man consistently being linked with a potential Reds switch is Jurrien Timber. I guess it’s an easy link to make given the fact he played for Erik ten Hag at Ajax last season.
Timber enjoyed his breakthrough season in 2021/22, playing 43 times across all competitions, making a name for himself over in his homeland of the Netherlands.
Now, according to the reliable Jamie Jackson, the defender is ‘warm’ on signing for Man United. Presumably this summer.
This makes sense. Ten Hag knows Timber well, while the player himself sees a move to United as the next stepping stone in his young career.
For United, Timber not only brings another option at the centre-back position, but the Dutchman can also play on the right-hand side of our defence is necessary. Having that versatility could be key, given the fact that Aaron Wan-Bissaka looks to be on his way out of Old Trafford.
There is no transfer fee mentioned here by Jackson, though you’d imagine Timber will not come cheap. With that in mind, you’d have to consider this move as a gamble.
Timber is still so young in terms of his overall development, and throwing a player of that age into a struggling United side is just so much pressure. Obviously, Ten Hag feels confident enough that he can live up to that, though he’ll undoubtedly need time to adapt and adjust if this move does happen.
