It’s fair to say that Romelu Lukaku’s Manchester United future is still up in the air. Although credit to the forward, who actually returned to pre-season training early.
Inter Milan has been the name that has constantly been linked with a move for Lukaku, but today, Gianluca Di Marzio has claimed that their Serie A rivals Juventus are also keen.
Apparently, the European giant have made an approach for the 26-year-old United attacker, although it’s not yet known whether Juve’s interest is genuine. Di Marzio states that they could be using it as a tactic to ‘obstruct the negotiation’ between United and Inter.
For the Red Devils it goes without saying that the more interested parties there are, the better it is. Anything that drives Lukaku’s price up is a positive, although Inter will still have to do a fair bit of selling if they’re going to come close to matching United’s asking price.
Lukaku’s situation is a tough one. You do get the impression that he’d prefer to move away from Old Trafford should the correct opportunity come in his way, while I also believe that United would cash in if the correct offer is tabled.
It’s weird because Lukaku has scored goals. 42 in two seasons here in Manchester is a decent return, particularly as he has been in and out of the team. There’s just something about him that hasn’t particularly endeared him to the crowd at times. Perhaps it’s the lack of effort sometimes, while his first touch does continue to be a real issue.
