Attacking midfielder Shinji Kagawa didn’t set the Premier League alight like many expected last season, but adapting to a new league and new way of playing is always tough – Especially when playing out of position. The 24-year old showed glimpses of brilliance last season, and he is determined to make it a regular occurrence.
In an interview with Inside United, Kagawa told of his happiness to win the Premier League crown in his debut season, but also he feels he could’ve contributed more individually.
“It was great to win the title with United and to make it three in a row for me personally, but I feel I still have work to do. I would say I am half satisfied and half unsatisfied.
I want to be a better player year by year. I expect a lot of myself. I hope to show my dynamism, style and presence more.”
His attitude seems to be spot on, he knows that he has what it takes to suceed, and if he keeps working hard he’ll get there. If he is utilised in his favoured position in behind the striker, he could easily become one of the best players in the Premier League. If we were to sell Wayne Rooney, I firmly believe Kagawa would benefit most.
“I think it is very important to keep working in your everyday training and in matches. You just have to keep practising. But you must also have a strong will. That is the key to playing in a foreign country, especially for me in Europe.
“It’s important to think positively and keep trying hard, imagining you are successful, even when things are tough.
“You have to believe in yourself. If you don’t, things can go wrong both on and off the pitch. And you can’t enjoy it. Being positive and believing in yourself is important, not only in football but also in improving as a person.”
Kagawa will stay in Japan and rest up for a while after playing in the Confederations Cup, and will join up with the rest of the United squad on the Japanese leg of our pre-season tour.
