Kalvin Phillips set to reject Man United move

Man United may have to look elsewhere to sign a midfielder, with Kalvin Phillips set to turn the club down.

Erik ten Hag has no doubt given the Manchester United board a list of potential transfer targets ahead of a huge summer transfer window.

The Dutchman brings his own ideas and tactics with him, meaning new playing personnel are an absolute must – even more so given how bad our current dressing room is performing right now.

One man who has constantly been linked with an Old Trafford switch ever since his Premier League emergence is Kalvin Phillips. Though, as we all know, the Leeds United captain is Elland Road through and through. That always felt like a potential stumbling block.

Now, in an exclusive from the Daily Mail, it’s being claimed that the 26-year-old will reject any move to United this summer. That’s because he ‘couldn’t bear’ to betray his beloved Leeds United.

The England international is ‘acutely aware of the enmity’ between Manchester United and Leeds United, and he ‘would be opposed’ to a Reds switch due to his loyalty to his boyhood club.

You always felt like Phillips would turn United down for this reason, though it doesn’t make it any less disappointing. Phillips would have been a great addition to our midfield, due to his mobility, work ethic and sheer desire to win.

The last player to make the move from Leeds United to Manchester United was Alan Smith way back in 2004. Though that’s largely because Leeds spent a decade-plus wallowing away in the lower leagues.

Either way, you have to respect Phillips’ decision to choose to move elsewhere instead. Heck, how mad would we be if Marcus Rashford decided to transfer to the Yorkshire club? Yeah, it wouldn’t go down well…

Would Kalvin Phillips have been a good addition? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
