Kieran Trippier is on the Man United transfer radar, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer seemingly looking to add another defender to the squad.
As we all know, Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been nothing short of sensational since joining Manchester United. His defensive abilities are there for all to see, while he’s certainly growing in an offensive capacity. The United coaches and manager deserve praise for that.
However, it seems as though the Old Trafford club are looking for some extra help in the right-back slot.
The story comes from The Guardian. On Sunday, they wrote that United are ‘considering’ a move for the 30-year-old Mancunian, Kieran Trippier.
It’s claimed that United are ‘pleased’ with Wan-Bissaka’s progress, though he has little in the way of competition. That seems very harsh on an ever-improving Brandon Williams, mind…
Bury-born Trippier is currently loving life out in Spain at the moment, playing some excellent stuff for Atletico Madrid. Just this weekend, he’d register two assists in yet another win for the La Liga table-toppers.
It must be stressed that the article hints that Trippier isn’t United’s only option. Although no other players are directly named, this feels like the Reds are weighing up the situation and the Englishman is by no means a sure-fire signing.
But would signing Tripper be a good move for United?
I guess it all depends on Trippier’s situation. At the time of him leaving Spurs, it was reported he wanted to stay in England. However, things change and right now, his Atletico Madrid side are flying high.
The main reason Trippier left North London was due to the fact he was no longer one of the first names on the team-sheet. Would he really want to come to United and play second-fiddle again? I’m not so sure.
From a United standpoint, you can sort of understand why they like Trippier as a rotational or squad option. However, I go back to what I said earlier, why not continue to develop Williams? Who is actually a right-back by trade, despite playing heavy minutes as a left-sided defender last term…
