Kobbie Mainoo was named Man of the Match on his full England debut last night.
Manchester United Football Club have always been known for producing young talents. That mantra is not changing under Erik ten Hag. Credit to the Dutchman, who has been more than willing to give academy products their chance.
It’s sometimes a difficult decision, as you don’t want to run the risk of throwing these players into the thick of it too early. However, promoting Kobbie Mainoo was an absolute no-brainer. He was always going to be good enough to play at the very highest level.
From minute one, Mainoo didn’t look out of place in the United side. Calmness. Composure. Skill. Maturity. The midfielder was arguably our best player from the moment he walked into the line-up.
It has been a whirlwind four months for Mainoo, who has since earned his maiden England call-up. He’d come off the substitutes bench against Brazil, before following that up with his first start against Belgium.
His debut was typical Mainoo. Quality from minute one, playing with real tranquility. He truly is a joy to watch.
It’s no surprise to any United fan to learn that Mainoo was named Man of the Match on full debut, with the midfielder all-smiles holding his trophy aloft after the performance.

This one was a massive message to all his doubters, claiming that Mainoo was only in the team because of the club team he plays for. Now, they all know it’s far more than that. He’s an unreal footballer with the world at his feet.
It’s just so scary that he’s only eighteen years of age. To play with such calmness and maturity is truly a credit to his persona.
Congratulations, Kobbie!
