Ethan Laird is set to spend a season in the Championship, despite being unavailable in pre-season with a slight issue.
Man United have already loaned out several players who have been on the fringes of the first-team at Old Trafford. Ethan Laird looks set to be the next in line to follow that path.
That’s according to the Manchester Evening News, who claim that Laird is ‘on the brink’ of sealing a loan move away.
After spending the second half of last season at MK Dons with Russell Martin, the defender is set to spend another campaign with Martin – this time in the Championship at Swansea City.
It’s written that the Swans are ‘big admirers’ of Laird, deeming him ready to step up to Championship level. The Welsh club expect the deal to be done this week.
The exciting 20-year-old sadly missed pre-season with United as he was recovering from a ‘niggling injury issue’, but he could slot straight into Martin’s team as Swansea gear up to take on Sheffield United this weekend.
Laird has two years left to run on his current United contract, and all being well, the full-back will be offered new terms next summer.
I rate this young man an awful lot. He’s an attack-minded full-back who will create chances galore when playing with confidence. I do worry about a mixed injury record, though if he can come through a tough Championship season unscathed, those doubts will become a thing of the past pretty quickly.
Hopefully, this deal for Laird is sorted sooner rather than later, giving him every chance at being involved for his new club in their next league fixture.
