Louis van Gaal is a huge admirer of his Holland star centre-back Stefan De Vrij, but the young centre-back has reportedly opted for Lazio – claim the Express. The 22-year old has had an impressive World Cup, and his calmness on the ball when playing it out of defence has been a joy to watch all tournament.
At just £7million, whoever does sign De Vrij would be grabbing an absolute bargain. He is one of the best young defenders in world football, and the maturity he shows is very impressive. Usually young defenders are prone to making mistakes, however De Vrij seems to have a cool head on his shoulders at all times.
Sporting director Igli Tare said: “Many things have been said and written about De Vrij and his transfer to United but this is not true.”
“His agent has said clearly that he has never been to Manchester to meet with the English club. De Vrij’s will is to play in Lazio.”
You’d imagine that if Louis van Gaal wanted him, he’d have had a quiet word in his ear by now. Maybe our manager is actively pursuing other targets who he prefers instead of Stefan De Vrij. We’ll just have to wait and see…
De Vrij has already made 130+ appearances for Feyenoord, and 16 appearances for Holland.
Would De Vrij be a good addition for Manchester United?
