I think it’s fair to say that before the season started, Manchester United fans were largely divided when talking about Jose Mourinho.
Half think he’s the right man for the job, while the other 50% bemoaned his tactics and ideologies. Following the Red Devils’ awful 3-2 loss away at Brighton & Hove Albion, my guess would be that the ‘Mourinho out’ bunch gained more followers.
One of whom, former United player Lee Sharpe. The Englishman believes that Mourinho will meet his Red Devils end before this season comes to a close; mostly due to his negative attitude.
“I am expecting the manager to get sacked before Christmas. If he is going to continue with this dourness and this moaning, then people will turn around and say this attitude is not getting us to the top so we need to change it.” Sharpe told The Independent.
“As much as the press and fans have been on Jose Mourinho’s case about the negativity over the past few seasons and him moaning about players he has and has not got, he just seems to ignore everybody and carry on as usual. He looks fed up and it is reflecting in his team’s performances. He is playing negative stuff.”
When you walk around Carrington sulking, that will rub off on your players. They’ll sense an unhappiness from the man right at the top, which will slowly stem down and have an effect on the rest of the squad.
It’s just not the right mindset or mentality to have, particularly when you’re preparing for an extremely tough away fixture. Sure, individual mistakes cost the team against Brighton, but what’s to say they went into that fixture feeling 100% content? I find it hard to believe they did.
Honestly, I think it’d be much easier to get behind Mourinho if he looked up for the task at hand rather than spending the time in front of the cameras looking upset…
