Legend takes swipe at Louis van Gaal and his style of play

Manchester United’s style of play has been heavily criticised at times this season, with Louis van Gaal’s ‘boring’ style of play not going down well with portions of the media. The latest man to have his say on the matter is Louis van Gaal’s fellow Dutch compatriot Johan Cruyff.

The Dutchman told Sky Sports: “He doesn’t dominate. I like dominating football. Manchester doesn’t play like that.

“I don’t think [they are too cautious], but it’s strange that against strong teams they’ve got good results and with weak teams they’ve had difficulties. That’s a strange situation.

“But the results I think are second. The game is first. Money is very important but always second. In England they play different, everybody has their own style. A mix of styles is always good.

“The most important part are the fans, that people going home are happy. It’s their time off and you should give them something to enjoy.”

Cruyff will obviously know plenty about football himself, having managed some great sides such as FC Barcelona in the past, and he certainly has a point. At the end of the day though, the fans only care about one thing – winning, and for as long as United are doing that then the fans will go home happy week-in week-out.
