Man United could acquire Youri Tielemans in a cut-price deal.
Ralf Rangnick’s short-term tenure at Manchester United certainly hasn’t been without incident. Credit where it’s due, the German is implementing his style, slowly but surely.
When the summer rolls around, let’s hope the new permanent manager has a mantra that falls directly in line with Rangnick’s. Though whoever is hired, money is going to have to be spent on this playing squad.
Just this Wednesday, we covered a claim which stated United were interested in signing Youri Tielemans from Leicester City. The Belgium international is possibly being looked at as a potential Paul Pogba replacement.
Now, according to Het Nieuwsblad, with the translation coming from The Express, the reported United target could be in a cut-price deal due to his winding down contract.
Tielemans’ contract expires in 2023 and rather than risk losing the midfielder for nothing, Leicester would be prepared to accept a fee of around £34million to let the former AS Monaco man leave.
For a player of his quality, with his Premier League experience, this feels like an absolute bargain. With that in mind, there’s no doubt that other clubs, as well as United, will be looking at making a move for Tielemans so acquiring his signature isn’t going to be easy.
Addressing the midfield problem is arguably United’s biggest need already. And if Pogba does indeed walk away for free, then at least one top-class central player simply has to be signed. There’s no doubt that Tielemans would significantly strengthen us if the club could somehow pull it off – plus we owe Leicester one after they ripped us off in the Harry Maguire deal…
