Jesse Lingard’s entourage believe Man United never really wanted to part ways with the Englishman.

It looked for all the world that Jesse Lingard’s Manchester United career was over when he joined West Ham on loan back in January.

The Englishman was loving life with the London outfit, scoring goals for fun and playing with confidence again.

Many were shocked when Lingard wasn’t sold permanently this summer, most thought it was a mistake. However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer seemingly had other plans.

Lingard was in line to start against Leeds United on the opening day, but for a bout of Covid-19. Now, new details have emerged about Lingard and it comes from the Manchester Evening News.

According to Samuel Luckhurst, the ‘inner circle’ of the £75k-a-week (Spotrac) United star were ‘never convinced’ that the club wanted to sell him this summer.

While we all thought Lingard was gone, Solskjaer never had that in mind. Credit to the Baby Faced Assassin for believing in Jesse, who seemingly just needed some time away to get that confidence back.

He’s scored two in two league games now, including a huge winner against West Ham United this weekend. Suddenly, the attacker is looking like a valuable part of this squad again, while Lingard is in line to start against The Hammers in the EFL Cup tomorrow night.

I always look at it like this. Lingard loves United, just like each and every one of us. He’s always worn that badge with pride and honour. He’s always had massive talent. That never changes.

If he’s content with playing a bit-part role then I’d absolutely love to keep him around. If that’s the case, Lingard will put pen to paper on a new deal sooner rather than later.

If Lingard can’t get right with that, he should refuse any offer placed in front of him and walk away for free next summer. One thing’s for certain, United should not be bending over backwards in order to protect Lingard’s value. The Reds have been burned by that mistake before. They need to avoid making that mistake again.
