Lisandro Martinez has arrived in a rather sunny Manchester, to finalise his transfer to United.
Yesterday, Manchester United confirmed their second signing of the summer; Christian Eriksen.
Alongside a deal for the clever Dane, the Old Trafford club have also been working on a move to sign Lisandro Martinez.
The Argentine centre-back was earmarked pretty early as one of Erik ten Hag’s key targets, with the Dutchman looking to bring that possession-based style of play to the Premier League.
Day by day, you felt like the Martinez transfer was edging ever closer. United and Ajax have spent weeks in negotiations trying to get the best deal possible for themselves.
Well, an agreement is now close, with the player arriving in Manchester with his agents as he closes in on officially becoming a Red Devil. That’s according to Fabrizio Romano, who also provided us with a photo.

Martinez is well-drilled in Ten Hag’s style of play, winning the Ajax Player of the Year award under his guidance in 2021/22. No doubt that’ll make for a seamless transition to the Theatre of Dreams for the Argentina international.
It’s also good that United managed to beat out competition from Arsenal to get this deal done. Not only are United getting a fine player in Martinez, but it also scuppers Mikel Arteta’s plans, who’ll be competing with Ten Hag for major trophies over the next nine months.
As we’ve stated before, the only real concern we have about Martinez is his height. Standing at just 5ft 9in, the 24-year-old is relatively small in stature, but if he can overcome that obstacle (pun not intended), then he’ll be a stunning signing for United.
