Lisandro Martinez could make ‘surprise comeback’ vs Spurs this weekend

Lisandro Martinez could make his Man United comeback this weekend vs Tottenham Hotspur.

Manchester United’s first half of the season was decimated by injuries, though thankfully, those problems seem to be easing. Erik ten Hag’s men are looking to start stringing the wins together from here in out, in an effort to start moving up the table.

Ahead of the Spurs game, the gaffer spoke about the possibility of Christian Eriksen, Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire all returning to the squad.

However, there could be another player making his long-awaited return; Lisandro Martinez.

It’s the Daily Mail’s Chris Wheeler with the story. He states that the key United man could make a ‘surprise comeback’ as well as the aforementioned trio.

According to the report, Martinez is ‘chomping at the bit’ to return, targeting the Spurs clash as a possible date.

The Argentine hasn’t played in mid-September, after needing a second surgery on a broken metatarsal in his foot.

There can be no doubt that as soon as Licha is back and fit, United’s side will be far stronger. However, the last thing the Red Devils should do is rush him back.

I’d be super surprised if Martinez starts this game, though placing him on the bench could be a possibility, particularly due to how thin United are at the centre-back position right now.

Even including him in the squad could give the ex-Ajax man that extra motivation to try and get back to100% fitness even sooner. I’m just keen to see him rebuild that partnership with Raphael Varane at the heart of the back four, assuming that the Frenchman remains at the club beyond this current transfer window.
