Lisandro Martinez pictured back in Argentina training during international break

Man United defender, Lisandro Martinez, has been pictured back in training after another injury absence.

Manchester United’s injury issues have been well documented this season. I’d argue the biggest of the lot has been Lisandro Martinez.

Make no mistake about it, the Argentine is more than just a talented player for this team. It’s his leadership, on-field aggression and winning mentality. The defence just hasn’t looked the same without him back there – both in terms of playing out from the back and defensive stability.

When Licha came back in January, the performances looked better. Sadly, his return was short-lived, with the defender suffering another problem in early February. At the time, an eight-week timeframe was placed upon his return.

However, it does look as though Martinez is ahead of schedule at this point. Today, the United star has been pictured back in Argentina training, alongside compatriot, Enzo Fernandez.

United did confirm that Martinez would be heading away with his country during the next fortnight as he continues to work his way back from the treatment room, but it’s massively encouraging to see him putting in the work.

For United, this is a huge boost going into the end of season run-in. I’d feel far more confident in our chances at lifting the FA Cup, while also ending the Premier League campaign strong, if Martinez is fit for the remainder of the term.

First and foremost, it’s about not rushing Martinez back into starts too quickly. Perhaps he should be eased in off the substitutes bench over the next few weeks, before being thrown straight back into the line-up from the start – however tempting that may be.

Next up for United is Brentford in eleven days. After a long trip back from South America, this feels like a risk. It’d be nice to see Martinez back in the match-day squad, sitting on the substitutes bench, but I wouldn’t be playing him at all in that one.

Do you think there’s any chance Lisandro Martinez will play against Brentford in a fortnight? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
