As us Manchester United fans know all too well, Romelu Lukaku was sold this summer, without a replacement being brought in… Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is putting real trust in youth but the lack of an experienced forward could well come back to haunt us over the course of a long season.

Well, according to TEAMtalk, there’s still one player out there who could make a difference, and it seems he’s keen on the move, too…

Teamtalk write that the 34-year-old striker, Fernando Llorente, is believed to be stalling on offers as he still hopes to secure a United switch. The Basque-born attacker is currently a free agent after leaving Tottenham Hotspur.

What’s interesting is that the Reds are considering making their move for a player like Llorente as they have to contend in the Europa League this season.

If Alexis Sanchez was to leave (which could actually be on the cards), United would be left with Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood as the only striker options. That’s why they’re contemplating signing a player like Llorente who could add crucial depth.

Personally, I’m not convinced. Llorente is nothing more than an average back-up player. If it meant fewer minutes for Greenwood, Tahith Chong and Angel Gomes then I’d prefer to see United leave this one alone, but if Solskjaer isn’t fully convinced by the crop of youngsters at his disposal then I’m all for it.

Do I think it’ll happen? I doubt it. Do I want it to happen? Probably not. You can understand the interest, though…
