Man United have seemingly been boosted in pursuit of Raphael Varane, assuming they’re still keen of course…
Well, unless the Red Devils’ standpoint has changed over the last week, Manchester United will still want to sign Raphael Varane. It was reported by Sport that the Old Trafford club ‘would not hesitate’ to make their move for the Frenchman
Today’s update on Varane comes from AS, translated by Sport Witness. Apparently, the long-term United target is ‘in favour’ of finding a new club.
With his contract expiring in 2022, it’s now or never for Real Madrid, who’ll be forced into parting with one of their prized assets.
It’s also claimed by AS that Varane’s new club will ‘probably’ be in the Premier League, giving United an excellent shot at acquiring the classy defender.
With Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s current defence throwing up a real mixed bag this season, it seems a given that United will be in the market for a new centre-half. Varane may well have just fallen right into their laps.
Players of Varane’s quality don’t come available very often, which is why United should already be doing all they can to ensure the 28-year-old is wearing red next season.
Obviously, that’s easier said than done and no doubt they’ll be other interested parties. However, I don’t think there’s a Premier League side who are as desperate for a centre-half as United.
In terms of what Varane would look for, you’d imagine a spot in the Champions League would be the absolute minimum requirement. We’d also look like a far more attractive option for the defender if we win a trophy or two this term.
Although no fees are mentioned by AS, you’d imagine Varane would still cost a fair whack despite his contract winding down. Hopefully, United can find that cash from somewhere despite the fact we’re still in the midst of a global pandemic…
