Louis van Gaal bizarrely states De Gea has never been Premier League winner

Manchester United are set to make it three seasons without Premier League glory, which feels like an awfully long stint given our recent history in that competition. In his press conference yesterday, Louis van Gaal bizarrely claimed that David de Gea has never been a champion…

The Spanish goalkeeper did win the league, in Sir Alex Ferguson’s last season in charge – and he was a key part of that squad too…

“The players we are now playing are not used to being champions. I don’t think Darmian is used to it, De Gea was never a champion.” Louis van Gaal said in his pre-match press conference.

“Memphis Depay was a champion last year [with PSV] so not many players… Rooney, Carrick, they have been the champions once, or maybe more than once.” The Dutchman added.

Louis van Gaal is usually spot on when it comes to stats and facts, but this is a grave error on his part. Whats more annoying is the fact that he claims Memphis Depay is a champion, who won the Dutch Eredivisie title last year, but this year Depay’s performances have been nothing short of woeful for the most part.

Could the cracks be starting to show for Louis van Gaal? Is the pressure getting too much for him? Who knows, but there is still plenty for him to play for with five games left this season.
