Manchester Unite have been without Luke Shaw for the majority of the campaign, after he suffered that horrific injury in which he broke his leg in two places. Although there has always been a glimmer of hope that he may return this season, that will no longer happen.
Louis van Gaal met the media to take part in his weekly press conference, and he gave us all the news that we’ve been dreading; Shaw won’t take to the field again this year.
“I have always said to Luke Shaw that he can play in the final to keep his motivation high.” Van Gaal began. “But now I cannot say that anymore as we are in the final! It is a pity as he cannot reach the level to play. He needs more time.”
“His motivation is still high and I have to give compliments to him as it is not easy to be away for such a long time.”
“He is coming back, but he is coming back next season.”
Its always good to keep him motivated, and Van Gaal has clearly done a good job of that. However it must be bitterly frustrating for the 20-year old to get so close to being able to take to the field again, but yet so far away still.
Its probably in the best interests of all involved that he doesn’t feature again this campaign, as it gives him another three months to recuperate and get that leg back to an even better condition before he begins working it rigorously in training.
Another damning blow for Shaw is the fact that this all-but rules him out of playing in the upcoming European Championships for his country, but again, its probably the best decision in the long-run if he doesn’t make it.
Hopefully his spirits can remain high and the left-back keeps looking forward onto the 2016/17 campaign.
