Louis van Gaal is known for his famous quotes, and perhaps none more so than when he dropped his pants in the Bayern Munich dressing room to show how big his balls were. Now he’s Manchester United manager, and he has given us another absolute gem of a quote.
Sadly, it means that United will probably stick to the five at the back for the foreseeable future though, as he says that the 4-4-2 diamond formation makes him ‘twitch his ass’ and he ‘doesn’t like that’.
“I said to my players I was squeezing my ass but I knew that was the wrong expression,” Van Gaal said. “I meant I have twitched my ass on the bench because we were out of balance. We won against West Ham playing 4-4-2 for instance but all the time it was twitching your ass and I don’t like it.” The Dutchman added.
“After I switched the system we won nine in a row [actually eight, then three draws] then we lose one game and the discussion about the system start up again. It’s ridiculous.”
This is an absolutely brilliant piece of analysis by the Iron Tulip, but the fact remains that pretty much 100% of the fans prefer it when we play the 4-4-2 diamond formation. The players seem to look a whole lot more confident when deployed that way, but at the end of the day he is manager for a reason and he knows a whole lot more than we do.
