Manchester United welcomed Ashley Young back to the first-team fold after months out with injury, and the Englishman’s return is obviously a huge morale boost for the manager and the squad. However the position of the 31-year old certainly came into question.
At half-time, the Iron Tulip decided to bring Young on as a central striker in place of Marcus Rashford, with the majority of Manchester United’s fans expecting him to come on as a left-back in place of Marcos Rojo.
When asked about the sub, Van Gaal responded:
“I wanted more running as in the 1st half we didn’t have an attacking point.” The Dutchman said.
It was bizarre to see Young as the main man up top. Yes, he’s extremely versatile but that is one area of the field you don’t imagine him to be in. Its brilliant to have him back though, and hopefully he can get himself fit and firing before the end of the season.
