Louis van Gaal eyes Thomas Muller as his first Manchester United signing

As the Louis van Gaal saga rumbles on, the German media source Kicker claim that the Dutchman would like to make Bayern Munich’s Thomas Muller his first signing. The 24-year old Munich man is one of the few players said to be unhappy under Pep Guardiola’s new regime in Bavaria.

Van Gaal has already identified a trio of Bundesliga players for his new-look Manchester United squad, and as expected, Manchester United look set to splash the cash in this hugely important summer transfer window.

It is believed that the only manager Thomas Muller would leave Bayern Munich for is the aforementioned Van Gaal, and the pair have worked together in Munich, after the Dutchman gave Muller his first-team debut back in 2008.

Muller is currently on the fringes of things under Guardiola, and has often been dropped in the bigger games in favour or Mario Mandzukic.

United are very top-heavy up front, with Robin van Persie, Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez all capable of starting as a striker in most top sides in world football. This probably suggests that Muller would predominantly be used as a winger.

Under contract until 2017, Muller is set to cost a pretty penny too. But if one of the strikers mentioned earlier are on their way out of Old Trafford, bringing in a familiar face may not be the worst idea.

Shaw Kroos Rues and Lars Bender will be more than enough to help us bring back the BPL to Old Trafford
