Manchester United Football Club got their first victory in four outings at home to CSKA Moscow last night, and although Wayne Rooney scored the only goal of the game, special praise has to go to both David de Gea and Chris Smalling for a wonderful piece of defensive work.
After the game Louis van Gaal was full of praise for the pair, but once again he referred to Chris Smalling as Mike Smalling in his post-match press conference.
“David de Gea has saved us and after that Michael Smalling has saved us.” Louis van Gaal said.
Whether or not he was joking, or he actually forgot Chris’ name once again remains to be seen, but ever since he has been referring to him as Mike he seems a completely different player – and for the better!
In all seriousness, Smalling has been one of the best defenders in the Premier League so far this season and it is absolutely brilliant to see just how far he has come in the last year or so.
