Louis van Gaal issues warning to Memphis Depay

Manchester United sanctioned a big-money move to land the starlet Memphis Depay over the summer, securing his signature for over £25million. Big things were expected of the Dutch winger, but so far he has failed to produce – particularly in the Premier League.

His poor form culminated in the 21-year old being dropped for the game at Everton yesterday, and after the match Louis van Gaal issued a warning to Depay.

“Some players cannot adapt to the team philosophy, that you cannot know in advance. You have to see that.” Louis van Gaal said.

“Because you see a lot of qualities in a player, but he has to put that quality in service of your team.”

As we’ve seen before, Louis van Gaal isn’t afraid to drop players who don’t fit his system, and we saw that to a huge extent over the summer when he sold plenty of players who didn’t suit his style of play.

Memphis Depay clearly has bags of talent, but over the last few weeks his attitude has certainly come into question. Hopefully he can get himself back on track over the coming weeks and fight his way back into the first-team fold in the not too distant future.
