Just before the new year, Manchester United were dealt a cruel turn of fate when Bastian Schweinsteiger was handed a three match ban for an apparent elbow on West Ham’s Winston Reid. At the time it felt like there was absolutely nothing in it, and now the Football Association have dug the knife in.
This past weekend, Stoke City’s Geoff Cameron was sent off for a similar incident, and he, like Schweinsteiger, chose to appeal the ban. However Cameron’s decision was overturned and his three game suspension didn’t take place.
The news has left Louis van Gaal furious, according to the Daily Mirror, and rightly so too… As football fans all we want is consistency amongst the officials, and at this moment in time it seems decisions like this are just being made on the roll of a dice. Surely either ban both players or neither of them, the situations were pretty-much identical and honestly its frustrating how they come to these decisions.
