Louis van Gaal makes bizarre statement about Marouane Fellaini’s performance v Liverpool

Manchester United fans have been highly critical of Marouane Fellaini ever since his £27million arrival from Everton a couple of seasons ago, and despite playing rather well on the whole last term, the midfielder hasn’t been anywhere near good enough this season.

The 27-year old returned to the starting line-up after missing the last few weeks with an injury, and its fair to say his performance wasn’t the best.

However the manager Louis van Gaal has come out and backed Fellaini in his post-match press conference, saying he was one of the best players on the pitch.

“I have to say Fellaini was one of the best players on the pitch.” Louis van Gaal responded when he was asked about the big Belgian.

At the end of the day Fellaini will always throw his weight around which is sometimes useful in these types of games, but his ability on the ball just isn’t anywhere near good enough, and that was certainly highlighted at Anfield last night.
