Louis van Gaal not happy with ‘out of shape’ Luke Shaw

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal met the media last night, and he shed light on a few topics – including the fitness of new signing Luke Shaw. Van Gaal said that he isn’t happy with Luke Shaw’s fitness, meaning he cannot perform how the Dutchman wants.

Van Gaal said:

“I am always a trainer who sees the individuals and what each player needs.” Van Gaal continued. “Luke needs to be fit and he’s not very fit and can’t perform how I want. He needs to be fit and to train individually.”

“I can’t judge why. I see what I see. I have spoken with him and we have made a programme with him.”

“He has agreed. We will have to see how long it takes. I don’t know.”

Whether these comments mean that Luke Shaw won’t be playing any further part on tour I don’t know, but what is quite clear is Louis van Gaal knows exactly what he wants.

He has seen that Shaw quite clearly hasn’t come into pre-season in the shape he’d like, and Van Gaal is making him work on his fitness as a primary target.
