Louis van Gaal once bought a house next to Koeman to prove his was bigger

Louis van Gaal and Ronald Koeman meet in the dugouts for the first time in English football tonight, and whether or not they’ll be a handshake before the game will certainly be of interest before the two sides meet on the pitch tonight. The pair used to be work colleagues and good friends, but a lot has changed since then.

According to the Telegraph, it was always Koeman’s dream to build his ‘dream house’ in the Algarve in Portugal. In 2006, that became a reality and the Dutchman moved into his property with his wife.

However, a few months later, construction workers began building another house next door to Koeman’s property, and shortly after we’d learn that Louis van Gaal would also be building his ‘dream house’ just next door.

Not only was this house more expensive, but it was also much bigger than Koeman’s. This was a clear message by Louis van Gaal – he is trying to prove that he is the bigger, better man. Such is the measure of the man to have the guts to do something like this, and personally I reckon its a bit distasteful.

Anyway, the two gaffers meet tonight, and it’ll be interesting to see the reactions of the pair both beforehand and afterwards.
