Louis van Gaal reacts angrily to Gary Neville ‘pub team’ comment

Manchester United somehow managed to grab a 2-1 victory away at Southampton last night, and the lads made it five wins in a row in the Premier League. Louis van Gaal himself was critical of the performance, but Gary Neville took it to the next level, and said a few things that clearly irked the Dutchman.

Gary Neville said:

‘They’ve been decimated with injuries. To say can they go and win the title? I think they’re too short defensively at this moment in time. I don’t think they’re at that level I really don’t.

‘They’re going to have to step it up. They look shaky on the ball. They lack counter attack, they lack speed, they didn’t have anything.

‘They’ve got away with murder tonight. United will be happy with the result but they will have to play better than that.’

The former United legend also jibed that Sunday’s game against Liverpool will be like a pub game if the two sides play like that.

Louis van Gaal responded by saying:

‘He can say everything because he is an ex-legend, but as an ex-legend, or as a legend, you have to know what you are saying.

‘You can interpret that how you like. It’s not difficult. When I say that, he has to pay attention to his words.’

Personally, I reckon Gary Neville got it spot on. United were poor last night and they struggled to get any kind of passing combinations together. At the end of the day, Neville is a pundit and he has to be brutally honest and United simply were lucky.
