Louis van Gaal says pair of youngsters ‘not needed’ for Ipswich clash

Manchester United’s attentions turn to cup action tonight, with the club taking on Ipswich Town at Old Trafford in the third round of the Capital One Cup. However there is somewhat of a cause for concern, as Louis van Gaal doesn’t seem likely to give chances to a duo young talents in James Wilson and Jesse Lingard.

Both played for the U21s on Monday night, and have now been ruled out of the match tomorrow.

“Today they have had a recovery day and also tomorrow is more recovery but I don’t need them so they can have a day off and then Thursday they will be fresh and can train.” Van Gaal said when asked about the availability of Wilson and Lingard.

I personally feel this is a huge shame. The pair have been performing well for the U21s for a number of years now, and surely they deserve a chance in the cup competition, or there is absolutely no hope for them under Van Gaal.

It must be disheartening for other members of the youth squad too, as they’ll all be eager to impress and earn a chance. Whether or not its because we were dumped out of the competition in embarrassing fashion last year remains to be seen, but it is a concern.
