Manchester United fans were clearly unhappy with Anthony Martial was substituted midway through the second half last night, with large portions of the crowd booing the manager as Wayne Rooney remained on the pitch. After the game the gaffer was asked about the incident.
“I’m not deaf. Of course I heard the fans booing. That is the opinion of the fans but afterwards they were not disappointed.” Louis van Gaal said.
At the end of the day the manager had the last laugh on this occasion. When Rooney was moved into the central striker role he did look a lot better, and capped off a decent last thirty minutes with a nice headed goal.
Hopefully the fans can now start to put a bit more trust in the Iron Tulip, and if Wayne Rooney can start firing again that’ll take a whole load of pressure off everyone involved.
