Manchester United almost lost David de Gea to Real Madrid in the last summer transfer window, but thanks to a dodgy fax machine, United managed to keep hold of their man. Now, at the Player of the Year awards ceremony, Louis van Gaal has given us an update on the situation.
“Everyone knows he was invited to Madrid. His girlfriend is living in Madrid, his parents, Spanish.” Van Gaal began. “Real Madrid is a great club but he is still here & as a manager I am so happy he is here and he deserves to win this title.”
At the end of the day, last summer, Manchester United somehow managed to keep hold of their best player. Since then, De Gea has signed a new long-term deal at the club meaning the ball is firmly in United’s court.
You’d imagine that Real Madrid will make a move for the Spaniard at some point in the summer transfer window, and you can hardly blame him for wanting the move.
The only hope is that Keylor Navas is in the form of his life, and Real Madrid decide to pursue other targets instead of our #1.
