Yesterday reports emerged suggesting Louis van Gaal had blocked a loan move away from Old Trafford for Guillermo Varela, and now we know the reason way. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Louis van Gaal wants to give him one last chance against Derby County tonight.
The Italian media outlet say that United have agreed to let Varela leave for Genoa on loan, with an option to buy the young right-back outright for €3million. They also go on to say that the flight has already been booked.
It would be a shame to lose Varela, but at this point in time Manchester United need proven quality, rather than taking the time to harness and nurture young talents.
Varela could turn into one of the best in the world but it is a gamble. The Uruguayan turns 23 in a few weeks as well, which isn’t all that young for a player yet to break through into the first-team at Old Trafford.
