Shaw was spotted limping heavily upon his departure from Kenilworth Road on Sunday evening, which immediately raised cause for concern. To hear that he may not play again is a real gut punch, particularly as there’s no other fit left-backs at the club right now.
Tyrell Malacia hasn’t played once this season and it’s still unclear when he’s fit to return. Alvaro Fernandez is away on loan, while Sergio Reguilon was sent back from his loan in January. It’s not looking like the best decision the club has ever made as things stand.
In terms of the options, we’ll write up a full article on who could replace Shaw, but right now, it’s looking like we’re going to see a heavy dose of Victor Lindelof at left-back, at least in the short-term. I would be intrigued if Harry Amass is thrust into the senior setup, though.
It’s also a major concern for Gareth Southgate, with the 2024 European Championships taking place this summer. No doubt Shaw is hoping to be fit for that competition, as his Three Lions have a very decent chance at going all the way.
