Luke Shaw may not play again in the 2021/22 campaign.
Manchester United’s 2021/22 campaign is practically over already. The Red Devils have little left to play for over their last seven games, but fulfil their fixture list they must.
One player who may not feature again is Luke Shaw. The left-back picked up a problem a couple of weeks ago, which was a recurrence of that horrific leg break he suffered against PSV Eindhoven.
As a result, Shaw was set to undergo a minor operation to remove the screws out of his leg. However, there has been a problem in that process, Mike McGrath of The Telegraph reports.
According to the journalist, the United star Shaw now faces a battle to play again this season after a setback.
Apparently, the op to remove the screws from his leg is taking far longer than expected, meaning we may not see the Englishman on the football field again until next term.
This just sums up Shaw’s season if we’re being honest. The left-back has struggled for any sort of consistency, which is a crying shame given how brilliant he was in 2020/21 and at the European Championships last summer.
Sadly, inconsistencies have plagued Shaw’s whole career. He’s 26 now and at that stage in his footballing life where he should be hitting the peak of his powers. We haven’t seen anywhere near enough from him to have full belief in what he can offer.
The problem is, Alex Telles isn’t setting the world alight either. This could leave Erik ten Hag with another area to invest in during the Dutchman’s first season in charge.
In the meantime, if Shaw is kept around, at least he should be feeling close to 100% by the time pre-season is here.
