Man United star Luke Shaw is set to be offered a new Red Devils contract.
I’ll be honest, before this season began, I seriously thought Luke Shaw was finished at Manchester United.
No doubt the addition of Alex Telles aided Shaw’s remarkable return-to-form, though the credit has to go to the player for his never-say-die attitude.
Shaw is now performing at an extremely high level – and that’s about to be rewarded.
According to the Daily Star, the United star is set to be given a new contract including a £40k-a-week pay rise, with terms offered up to and including the 2025-26 campaign.
It has been an incredible season for the 25-year-old, who still had two years left to run on his current contract.
Honestly, I’m just delighted for Shaw. To come back from that horrific leg-break and win the fans back over is pretty remarkable – given how fickle the modern-day football fan is.
Now, it’s Telles who is frustrated at a lack of playing time, as nobody expected this from Shaw.
It goes without saying, Shaw deserves a new deal with increased wages. The Englishman is now looking forward to finishing the season strongly and hopefully winning a trophy. Then, he’ll no doubt be partaking in the European Championships this summer. Hopefully, as England’s first-choice left-back.
I don’t say this lightly. As of right now, there’s not a left-back in the Premier League I’d rather have than Shaw. The confidence is now flowing through him and he’s reaping those rewards – both on and off the field.
Congratulations, Luke! The sooner this deal is done, the better it’ll be for all involved.
