Our fears have been confirmed, Luke Shaw is injured. He’ll now miss the next four weeks of football.
Straight after the game, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed that Shaw was injured, though no timeframe was placed upon his return. The Baby Faced Assassin did state that it could be a bad one, though.
Now, the official Manchester United website have had their say. They’ve confirmed that the club have been dealt a big blow, with the key star Shaw ruled out for a month with that injury.
Shaw was having an excellent month. He’d actually picked up assists in back-to-back games, including a lovely cross into the ball which Bruno Fernandes headed home. There’s no doubt that mounting pressure from Alex Telles was spurring the Englishman on to better performances.
Now, the 25-year-old is set to be missing for around four weeks, which is a huge shame. In terms of the games he could miss, six have been named by the United website. West Brom, Southampton and West Ham in the Premier League and PSG, RB Leipzig and Istanbul Basaksehir in Europe.
More than anything, I just feel sorry for Shaw. He’s been plagued by injuries ever since arriving at United and just as he was beginning to find his feet, he’s struck down and sidelined again.
In terms of what this means for the squad, you’d assume the aforementioned Telles will be given a real run in the side and given an opportunity to prove his worth. There’s also Brandon Williams who is patiently waiting in the wings, while Axel Tuanzebe can also play out there.
At least we now have options in regards to who can play out there, but obviously, that’s of absolutely no consolation to Shaw.
It goes back to what Solskjaer was saying about the FA not helping the English clubs out. United played a Champions League game in Turkey on Wednesday night, then they’re thrown into the Saturday early kick-off. That’s just not good enough.
Get well soon, Luke!
