Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw is in fine form at the moment. So-much-so that the player himself agrees he’s enjoying his best season ever.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer deserves credit for restoring the spirit and confidence back into this Manchester United squad. This was never a bad side, that dressing room has always been jam-packed with quality.
Perhaps Solskjaer’s biggest win as a manager is Luke Shaw. I’ve said it time and time again, I genuinely thought the Englishman was finished at Old Trafford. Oh, how wrong I was…
Right now, I reckon we’re looking at the best full-back in the country. Shaw defends with diligence, attacks with prowess and works his socks off for the cause. After years of heartache and hurt following serious injury, I genuinely couldn’t be happier for the ex-Southampton man.
Now, the 25-year-old United star believes he’s playing his best football. It’s hard to disagree.
When asked whether he was having his best campaign, Shaw said:
“Yeah definitely,” Shaw responded to the media, including Goal. “The season I won player of the year you could have picked anyone out of the hat, I don’t think there was a standout person that season.
“I think this season is my best and I’m enjoying it and I need to keep working hard and keep improving and I feel like I can keep getting better and give more to the team and I need to be doing that and keep going and keep my head down and what will come, will come.”
This is undoubtedly as good as I’ve ever seen Shaw play at Old Trafford. Perhaps he’s performed better at Southampton, but not for a stretch as long as this.
It’s easy to forget he once won our Player of the Year award. Right now, he deserves to be in the conversation to win it again, though Bruno Fernandes will probably have plenty to say about that.
I’m just so happy for Shaw. Nobody deserves this more than him and as he says, he can still improve. It’s now down to the Englishman to keep working, keep fighting and keep growing.
Hopefully, he can come through the season unscathed, before jetting off to take part in this summer’s European Championships. He absolutely deserves to see his talents admired on the continental stage.
