Luke Shaw will be missing for the foreseeable future with a muscle injury.
Manchester United just cannot catch a break at the moment. Erik ten Hag’s side have started the season pretty poorly, as problems continue to mount.
Now, another first-team regular has picked up a problem; Luke Shaw.
It’s the BBC with the claim, stating that the key United star is set for an ‘extended period’ out injured with a muscle problem. The club are still assessing the full extent of the problem, though he will be out for a number of weeks.
With Tyrell Malacia also out, while Brandon Williams has been loaned to Ipswich Town, United find themselves in a tough predicament in the left-back position.
Shaw being missing for any sort of prolonged period is a huge shame. The Englishman is a major part of the way United play the game, though he hasn’t been at his best in the first couple of matches.
He becomes the seventh United player to pick up an injury already this season, which is hugely worrying. If that continues, United are going to find themselves in a real mess.
Who replaces Shaw?
Well, Diogo Dalot has played there. It could make sense given the fact that Aaron Wan-Bissaka has done a good enough job on that right-hand side. There’s also Alvaro Fernandez, who is a natural in that position.
The Spaniard had a good pre-season, though I’m not sure Ten Hag will thrust him into the limelight. Personally, I’d give him a go and see what he’s made of this weekend against Nottingham Forest. Then, either keep him in and around the squad or loan him out for the remainder of the season. I personally believe he has what it takes.
