Manchester United finally welcomed Luke Shaw back to the pitch at the start of this season, following heartbreak last term as he suffered a double leg-break. The form of the left-back has been stunning considering what happened, and he has started like he’s never been away.
The 21-year-old took on his former club in Southampton on Friday night and was at his brilliant best. He buccaneered up and down his flank all game long which was brilliant to see – and he also won his side a penalty after being clipped by Jordy Clasie.
After the game, social media went into meltdown as Southampton fans vented their anger at an apparent dive by Luke Shaw, and now the youngster has responded to those claims.
“A lot of people are saying it wasn’t a penalty, but 100 per cent it was a penalty, he clipped my foot,” he told MUTV.
“There was 100 percent contact and I am not one to dive or to cheat. I am happy I played a part in one of the goals tonight.”
Check out the vine here, which clearly puts the ‘dive’ myth firmly to bed:
Please watch this and then tell me Shaw dived. Quite obvious contact. [@Darmianology] pic.twitter.com/jwgRNi5Exf

It’s quite obvious from the video that there was definite contact in some form, so how people can claim Shaw dived is beyond me. He’s a player who has always played the game in a professional, exemplary manager and he isn’t the kind of bloke who’ll flop to the floor to win a penalty.
