Macheda: It’s Great To Be Back

Since his burst onto the scene back in 2008, Federico Macheda’s Manchester United career has been a bit of a slow burner. The Italian has been limited to just 16 Premier League appearances, most of which have been as a substitute.

Kiko definitely has talent, in my opinion he just needs a good string of games. Whilst on loan at Sampdoria and QPR, he’s been unlucky with injuries, also other frustrating scenarios have definitely hampered his progress. However, through all this, Fergie is definitely keeping faith in the youngster.

“I’m really looking forward to it,” he told ManUtd.com. “It’s always great to visit fans in different countries. You meet new people, you see new cities, you experience different cultures.

“I didn’t know how big the club was around the world when I went away for the first time in 2009. But I was very impressed by Malaysia, China and Korea. We have great support all over the world and I love being part of this team.

“It’s great to be back at Manchester United. When you go on loan you really understand how important it is to play for this club. I’m really happy to be back and I can’t wait for the start of the season.

“Last season was disappointing. In the first six months I didn’t get a lot of opportunities here so we decided it was best for me to go on loan. When I got to QPR things went a bit wrong, though, as I was feeling my ankle a lot. But now I feel a lot better and want to start the season well. It’s a big season for me.”

Sadly, I just can’t see Macheda playing more than a bit-part again this year, he will probably make the starting XI for the League Cup games and possibly the odd substitute appearance.

I hope he does well though, I still believe that the best option for him is to go on loan to a lesser Premier League side, he just needs to keep injury-free for a full season and get that vital match experience under his belt. Just look at Danny Welbeck.
