Madrid interested in signing Pogba, one stumbling block holding up deal: report

Real Madrid are interested in Paul Pogba, we all know that. It’s one of those rumours that just won’t disappear until the move eventually happens. It feels like just a case of when rather than if.

Spanish media outlet AS has now weighed in and they say that Zinedine Zidane’s interest in the mercurial Frenchman is genuine – although his wages could be the stumbling block that holds up the deal.

Pogba currently earns €17m (£14.7m) net per year, and if Madrid were to match these wages, he’d usurp both Gareth Bale and Sergio Ramos in the top-earners column, which could affect both their wage structure and dressing room harmony.

It’s also written that Pogba is unlikely to accept lower wages (who’s surprised?) in order to sort out a move to Real Madrid.

Speaking from a United standpoint, I’m massively disappointed in Pogba. He’s obviously an outstanding player but the fact that he only puts in a top performance when it suits him is extremely frustrating. Now that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been given the job permanently, the midfielder’s level has dropped and we’re back to square one with him.

At this point, if the right offer came in then I’d cash in while he still has transfer value. The deeper Pogba gets into his United contract, the more power he holds. Sell now for a profit and spend that money on someone who wants to play for United. Surely that’s the way to go?
