Manchester United need a new centre-half. Jose Mourinho begged for one last summer but to no avail. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer simply has to be given the opportunity to bring in an elite-level defender.
The name that keeps popping up on the back pages is that of Harry Maguire. Last night, The Mirror gave us another update – and it makes for positive reading if you’re an advocate of the Leicester City man moving to Old Trafford.
Apparently, Maguire has told current club manager Brendan Rodgers that he wants to leave, with the 26-year-old having his sights set on a move to Old Trafford and United this summer.
Furthermore, The Mirror states that United are looking to push through the deal with Manchester City not willing to get into a ‘costly auction’ to sign the Three Lions centre-half.
Maguire made his intentions clear to Rodgers during Leicester’s training camp in Evian, France, last week, with the former Hull City man clearly doing his bit to try and secure the transfer.
My opinion in regards to a Maguire deal has remained the same. He’d improve our defence in a variety of ways, and although he’d cost a fair amount, he could be the difference in us finishing in the top four and qualifying for the Champions League. Surely it’s worth the gamble as the transfer could effectively pay for itself…
