Malcolm Ebiowei will not be joining Man United this summer

Man United will not be adding Malcolm Ebiowei to the playing squad this summer.

Not too long ago, Manchester United were said to be ‘pushing hard‘ to acquire Malcolm Ebiowei from Derby County.

It looked like a deal was relatively close. Heck, the teenager was moving up from Derby County to a top-tier Premier League side.

Where better to ply your trade as a young player than Old Trafford? Honestly, I felt like this one was a formality. Alas, United have since been dealt a blow in pursuit of Ebiowei.

The claim comes from Fabrizio Romano, who states that the attacker ‘won’t join’ the Reds this summer. Instead, Ebiowei has decided to move elsewhere; Crystal Palace.

The young Englishman has signed a five-year contract with the Selhurst Park club, with that transfer already said to be a done deal.

This just shows how far the Old Trafford club have fallen over the last few years. The gradual decline has players second-guessing whether a move to the Theatre of Dreams actually makes sense.

Instead, Ebiowei has chosen to move to Crystal Palace. Sure, the London club are probably in a far better slot to give the teenager regular playing time under Patrick Vieira, though I just assumed the lure of a move to the biggest club in the country would be too turn down.

I get that for United, this was a signing for the future rather than the here and now. That said, it’s never good when you’re losing out on transfer targets that the new manager has asked for.

In terms of positives, if Ebiowei is really that good, there’s every chance he’ll be moving away from Selhurst Park at some point in the future. Perhaps then, United could make their move for him. Though he’d certainly cost a lot more in terms of transfer fee at that point.
