Man United ‘absolutely’ still want to sign Frenkie de Jong

Man United are still looking to make a move to sign Frenkie de Jong from FC Barcelona.

Cast your mind back to last summer. Manchester United spent plenty of time chasing the signature of Frenkie de Jong, who seemed to always reaffirm his desire to remain in Catalonia.

In the end, the Reds came up short. They’d settle for a move to bring in Mason Mount, who has hardly set the world alight so far. Largely due to injury.

Now, Sport have provided an update on that front. They claim that United ‘absolutely’ still want to sign the 26-year-old Dutchman, who Ten Hag previously worked with at Ajax.

De Jong’s future is once again up in the air, though this time, he is no longer closing the door on an exit if the right offer comes in.

It’s claimed that there has been no progress in contract talks, with United remaining ‘very attentive’ to his situation.

United would be willing to bid for the midfielder if he’s available, while Ten Hag ‘absolutely’ still wants to sign the player if that’s the case.

I’m all for trying, but I wouldn’t waste too much time and energy on the move. It seems like De Jong and his agent could use United in order to leverage a better deal at Barca. It wouldn’t be the first time a player has done this.

I understand that Barca are in a situation where they have to sell in order to raise some funds, but would they really cash in on De Jong? I’m not convinced.
