Man United want to move Eric Bailly on permanently this summer.
For all the holes within Manchester United’s current squad, the Red Devils are extremely stacked in the centre-back position.
Erik ten Hag probably has too many top-level centre-halves if anything, given the fact that only two can be selected on a matchday.
That begs the question as to which centre-backs Ten Hag has a preference to keep around. Harry Maguire will start and wear the captain’s armband, while Lisandro Martinez played alongside the Englishman at the weekend. Then you have Victor Lindelof, Raphael Varane, Eric Bailly and Phil Jones waiting in the wings.
Well, the Ivorian Bailly may not be around for much longer…
A report from L’Equipe (Tuesday print edition), with a translation via Sport Witness, claims that the United centre-back is attracting interest.
Apparently, AS Monaco have taken a shine to the 28-year-old, making Bailly their ‘priority’ signing at the current moment. With the Reds ‘thinking about parting ways with him’, there’s a genuine belief that a deal could happen.
That said, United will not let Bailly go on the cheap, while a loan move away seems to be out of the question. The Reds ‘absolutely want to sell’ their first-team centre-back this summer.

Understandably, the Reds want Bailly out permanently in an effort to get his wages off the books and presumably spend that money in other areas of the field that need work.
Bailly himself isn’t going to take a pay-cut, though, so moving away from him for good may be pretty tricky at the current juncture. As is the case yet again, United have overpaid for a player and they’re then struggling to move away from said player.
The Ivorian absolutely needs a fresh start more than anything. He needs starts regularly and a move to AS Monaco would probably give him that opportunity.
Hopefully, the wage obstacles can be overcome and Bailly is moved on during this window.
