Although a big summer is expected, Manchester United have made a relatively quiet start to the 2019/20 off-season.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will surely be given money to spend, although the Baby Faced Assassin is seemingly trying to take this club back in a direction where they have succeeded over the years – by signing, developing and giving opportunities to young players.
A name linked with an Old Trafford move is that of Hannibal Mejbri. The 16-year-old currently plays his football for AS Monaco in Ligue 1, although he hasn’t turned up for training over the last month or so.
French journalist Mohamed Bouhafsi has taken to Twitter to give us the latest update on Mejbi, reporting that United ‘absolutely’ want to sign the midfielder, while making a ‘very big’ offer to the player…
Apparently, another meeting was due to take place today as all parties involved in the transfer will be discussing Mejbri’s future – although the player has made it clear that he wants to break his contract with the Principality club.
Aged just sixteen, Mejbri isn’t a player I’m all-too-familiar with, although he must be talented if United want to make their move.
It’s always tough to gauge how quickly players aged just 16 will develop, but United have been brilliant at giving chances to talented teenagers so it makes sense for them to try and repeat that trick once again.
My only concern would be the fact that Mejbri is ready to break his contract with Monaco. If he’s done it once then perhaps he could do it again in the future…
